One more person died of Covid-19 in Mozambique, bringing the number of deaths to 119, and a further 63 new cases have been confirmed, the Ministry of Health reported today [November 18].
The patient was a 62-year-old Mozambican man who had been admitted to a hospital in the city of Maputo where he died on Tuesday [November 17] after “his health deteriorated”, reads the MISAU daily brief on Covid-19.
With the 63 newly diagnosed cases announced today, Mozambique accounts for an accumulated of 14,629 infections, of which 14,322 are locally transmitted and 307 are imported.
Health officials reported that another 108 people have recovered from the disease, bringing recoveries to 12,754 (87%), while there is a cumulative of 565 hospitalised patients in the country..
The city of Maputo continues to register the majority of the active Covid-19 cases in Mozambique, with 1,397, followed by Cabo Delgado province, with 187. The remaining provinces have less than 40 active cases.
Since the announcement of the first infection in Mozambique, on March 22, 214,935 suspected people have been cumulatively tested, 1,820 of whom “in the last 24 hours”.
The Covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,339,130 deaths resulting from more than 55.6 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French news agency AFP.
