Mozambique: Thousands may lose drinking water in Niassa province

Mozambique recorded, in the last 24 hours, 58 more positive cases of Covid-19, bringing the total to 4,265 infections, the Ministry of Health reported today.
“Of the 58 cases reported today, 57 are Mozambican and one is a Malawian national,” reads a data update note from the ministry.

The reported cases are in isolation at home and, at the moment, the process of identifying their contacts is underway, it adds.
The newly diagnosed cases are from: Niassa province, four cases; Cabo Delgado, one; Nampula province two; Tete province, five; Maputo province, 15; and Maputo city 31.
Of the total number of infections that the country has already registered, 3,998 cases are of local transmission and 267 cases are imported.
The Ministry of Health accounts for another 141 recoveries in the last 24 hours, bring to 2,511 (58%) the number of individuals who are fully recovered, with 26 deaths and 16 hospitalised persons also registered.

The Mozambican capital (Maputo city) continues to record the highest number of active cases in the country, with 925 infected, followed by the provinces of Maputo, with 227, Nampula, with 198, and Cabo Delgado, with 177 cases.
The remaining seven Mozambican provinces have fewer than 90 cases.
Mozambique has screened just over two million people and has tested a cumulative of 101,888 since the announcement of the first case on 22 March.
On the state of emergency in force since August 6 and ending on September 8, the Mozambican head of state, Filipe Nyusi, today will address the nation.
Mozambique has lived with restrictions in the past five months, after a first state of emergency that started on April 1 and has had three extensions.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 869,718 lives and infected more than 26.3 million people in 196 countries and territories.
