The country recorded79 more cases of infection with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, increasing the cumulative to 2638 people diagnosed with the disease since its beginning, with 2,449 being locally transmitted and 189 imported.
In terms of the distribution of new cases, four are from Nampula province, one from Niassa, four from Sofala, 16 from Manica province, five from Gaza province, six from Maputo province and 43 from Maputo city.
Regarding the recoveries, there were 64 more registered, bringing the cumulative to 1,015 .
Of the newly diagnosed 79 cases, 73 are Mozambicans, two are Dominican nationals and the remaining four are from South Africa, Spain, Venezuela and the Netherlands, said the national director of Public Health, Rosa Marlene, in the update of data on the pandemic at the Ministry of Health. in Maputo.
The majority of active cases are in the city and province of Maputo, with 579 and 354 people infected, respectively, followed by Cabo Delgado, with 236, and Nampula, with 222 cases.
The remaining seven provinces in the country register less than 120 cases.
“For the third consecutive day, the province of Inhambane [southern Mozambique] does not register any active cases of Covid-19”, said Rosa Marlene.
“The cases reported today are in isolation at home and, at this moment, the identification of their contacts is proceeding,” said Rosa Marlene.
Mozambique has performed 73,479 tests since the announcement of the first case of Covid-19 on March 22, having screened more than 1.7 million people.
A total of 27,239 people suspected of infection were placed in quarantine at home and 3,711 continue being monitored by health authorities.
