Mozambique today (December 16) reported one more death from Covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 145, and another 101 cases of infection with the new coronavirus.
An 88-year-old woman died while hospitalised l in the city of Maputo, reads a communique issued by the Ministry of Health (MISAU).
The country recorded a further 101 Covid-19 cases , bringing the cumulative total to 17,143 , of which 15,241 (88%) are reported to have recovered.
Maputo city has the majority of active cases with 1,421, followed by Maputo province, with 102 cases.
The country accounts for 251,609 of suspected cases tested, since the first infection was announced on March 22.
The Covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,636,687 deaths resulting from more than 73.4 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.
In Africa, there are 57,057 confirmed deaths in more than 2.4 million people infected in 55 countries, according to the latest statistics on the continent’s pandemic.
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
