Mozambique: Tobacco related diseases kill over 9000 every year
Two more patients have died of coronavirus in Mozambique, MISAU announced today. The country registered another 78 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 4,117, the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.
A 63-year-old Mozambican woman died on Sunday after being hospitalised on August 15 in a private hospital in Maputo, with”severe respiratory illness”, according to the pandemic data update statement distributed today.
“During her stay in the intensive care unit of the hospital’s isolation ward, she developed a severe respiratory condition and was declared dead on the morning of the 30th,” the note added.
The other victim, a 67-year-old Mozambican man, died on Friday at the Intensive Care Unit of the Maputo Central Hospital, where he had been admitted two days earlier with “severe respiratory disease and chronic illness”.
3851 cases are of local transmission and 266 are imported.
In the last 24 hours, the country performed 910 tests.
The distribution of the newly diagnosed cases by province is as follows: 07 Cabo Delgado, 24 Niassa, 01 Nampula, 01 Sofala, 01 Inhambane, 04 Maputo province and 40 in Maputo city.
Seventy-four (74) of the newly diagnosed cases are individuals of Mozambican nationality and four (4) cases are foreign individuals: one (1) individual of Indian nationality, one (1) individual of Italian nationality and two (2) individuals of Portuguese nationality.
In the last 34 hours, 45 recoveries have been reported, so the country has 2,328 individuals recovered from the pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus.
The city of Maputo, the country’s capital, has the highest number of active infections, with 1,015, followed by Cabo Delgado province, with 188, Nampula, with 187, followed by the remaining regions with less than 180 active cases.
