Mozambique today [November 17] reported two more Coviv-19 deaths in the country, one in the province of Inhambane and one in the city of Maputo, taking the death toll to 118 .
The patients, of 20 and 57 years of age, were both Mozambican citizens and died on [Thursday] November 12 and [today] November 17, as a result of the “worsening of their health status” during the hospitalisation period, reads a statement by the Ministry of Health sent to “O País”.
The Ministry of Health today reported a further 52 confirmed Covid-19 cases, 47 of whom are Mozambican nationals, three are foreigners and two are of nationalities yet to be determined.
All the cases reported this Tuesday resulted from local transmission and are in isolation at home.
Maputo city reported 28 cases (53.8%) today, and was followed by Zambézia province with nine (17.3%).
With the 52 newly diagnosed cases, the country increases the cumulative to 14,566, of which 14,262 cases of local transmission and 304 imported.
Currently, 86.8% of the reported Covid-19 cases in Mozambique have recovered, including a further 47 recoveries reported today, which brought the cumulative to 12,646.
The total number of active infections in the country stands at 1,798. The city of Maputo continues to account for the largest number of active cases, with 1,375, followed by Cabo Delgado province, with 186, and the remaining nine provinces in the country have less than 80 cases.
The city of Maputo remains the epicentre of the pandemic and accounts for more than half the cumulative number of infected people across the country (7,432, out of a total of 14,566 confirmed cases so far).
In Mozambique, a total of 562 people have already been hospitalised due to infection with the new Coronavirus. Of this cumulative, 49 continue to fight for life in isolation centres for people with the virus and in other hospitals in the country. About 95.9% of bedridden patients are in the city of Maputo.
“Inpatients suffer from various chronic pathologies, the most frequent of which are Arterial hypertension and diabetes”, says the Ministry of Health.
