A group of terrorists infiltrated several neighbourhoods in the district of Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado province, where they carried out attacks, looted goods and destroyed infrastructure, said the Minister of National Defense, in a joint conference with the Minister of the Interior .
Meanwhile, the Government ensures that the district has not been taken by terrorists, contrary to reprots brought by some national and foreign press.
According to Jaime Neto, Minister of National Defense, the situation remains tense, but the Defence and Security Forces are on the ground determined not to let terrorists jeopardise national sovereignty.
“The State will take measures so that this problem does not spread to other regions”, added the minister.
Asked about the possibility of declaring the State of Siege in Cabo Delgado, Interior Minister Amade Miquidade replies that this is out of the question.
“The State is still going strong to combat,” Amade Miquidade assured, moments ago, in a statement to the media, from the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre, in Maputo.
