Beira businessman, Fazal Patel, also known as ‘Faizal Mutarara’, who was kidnapped on January 13, was released last night at an unknown location somewhere in the city, Magazine CRV reports.
Faizal Faruk (Patel) was kidnapped on the 13th of this month as he returned by car to his home in Beira’s Ponta-Gêa neighbourhood after work.
According to a credible source close to the case, Faizal, 49, was released by his abductors last night, and is said to be in good health and already reunited with his family.
There is still no information on the composition of the gang which abducted him, or on what “terms and conditions” was he released.
Faizal Patel is an entrepreneur linked to the company Mutarara Comercial, in the city of Beira.
He was abducted by a gang of four individuals travelling in a white Toyota Ractis who blocked his passage as he was returning home on the night of January 13.
The abductors reportedly tried to force the victim out of his car at gunpoint, Faizal only complying after shots were actually fired.
The events unfolded in a supposedly upmarket neighbourhood of Beira: Ponta-Géa, close to the Maisha gym.
The now-released victim was the second business person abducted in Beira in less than a month. In December, the son of the owner of ‘Casa Chacha’ was kidnapped and released after about a week of captivity. Police have not offered any clarification regarding the circumstances of his release.
