Five defendants in Mozambique’s so-called ‘hidden debts’ case initially detained at the Machava jail were transferred on Monday night to SERNIC cells in Lingoma, Matola (near Parmalat, on the old road), Savana has learned from a source close to the process.
The transferred detainees are Teofilo Nhangumele, Ndambi Guebuza, Sérgio Namburete, Bruno Tendane and Sidonio Sitoe.
According to Savana’s sources, there were attempts to resist the transfer. with Ndambi Guebuza reportedly trying to contact his father, Armando Guebuza, but in vain.
“There was not even time to inform the lawyers. It all happened very quickly. The guard who had the keys to the gate resisted initially because he was not given a [transfer] slip. The commander (in charge of the transfer) handwrote one out, stamped it and signed it,” the source said.
A dual-cab Ranger and a SERNIC prisoner transport vehicle were used in the operation.
