Mozambique: Rainy season death toll rises to 313

The former general director of INATTER (now National Institute of Land Transport – INATRO IP) is currently detained, along with three other employees of the institution and a former employee of a service provider company.
According to case No. 67/GCCC/2020, which runs at the Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC), the case is related to the alleged mismanagement of public funds between the years 2018 to 2021.
According to Notícias, the five ‘arguidos’ [formally named suspects], who also include the former head of the INATTER Department of Administration and Finance, two INATTER technicians, are accused of the practice of the crimes of abuse of office or function, passive corruption for unlawful act, harmful administration, payment of undue remuneration, violation of management rules, economic participation in business and criminal association.
According to the GCCC press release, in the possession of “Notícias Online”, the file with the five arrested defendants was sent to the investigating judge for the purposes of the first judicial interrogation in compliance with the provisions of article n° 175 of the Code of Criminal proceedings.
