The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM)in the central province of Manica announced this Thursday, July 23, the killing during a confrontation, in the administrative post of Dombe, Sussundenga district, of five armed men of the self-proclaimed Junta Militar da Renamo, led by Major General Mariano Nyongo.
In this operation, five AK-47 firearms were seized with seven magazines containing 120 ammunition, said Mário Arnança, from the Public Relations Department in the provincial command of PRM.
The source said that the actions of the Defence and Security Forces (SDS) came after realising that men loyal to Mariano Nyongo were already sowing terror in the hidden areas of the districts of Gondola and Sussundenga, where in addition to killing defenceless civilians, they destroyed and plundered assets.
In fact, examples of this new ‘modus operandi’ are incidents such as the recent vandalization of seven trucks belonging to a timber operator in the district of Sussundenga, the looting of medicines at a health centre in Gondola, among others.
Meanwhile, the police call on the population not to cover up the actions of alleged armed men from the Renamo Military Junta.
