Mozambique: Notable shift in displacement dynamics, steady return of IDPs to their areas of origin

Mozambique recorded, in the last 24 hours, 28 more positive cases of infection with the new coronavirus, bringing the country’s cumulative total to 1,748. The newly diagnosed cases are in Niassa Province (02), Gaza Province (01), Maputo Province (15) and Maputo City (10). The country performed 1,130 tests from Tuesday to Wednesday, 564 in private sector laboratories..
Of the samples tested in public sector laboratories, 62 came from Niassa Province, one from Cabo-Delgado Province, one from Nampula Province, four from Zambézia, four from Tete, 22 from Manica, 89 from Sofala, 26 from Gaza, 220 from Maputo Province and 97 from Maputo City.
Of the samples tested in private sector laboratories, 359 came from Cabo-Delgado Province and 205 from Maputo City.
Of the twenty-eight (28) cases reported today, 24 are individuals of Mozambican nationality, two are Malawian and two Indian. Of these, eleven (11) result from surveillance in health units, eleven (11) result from active surveillance and six (6) result from tracking positive cases’ contacts.
All the cases diagnosed today, including two children under the age of five, are in isolation at home and their contacts are still being identified, reports the Ministry of Health.
The city and province of Maputo continue to record the highest number of active cases, with 259 and 231 infections, respectively, followed by Cabo Delgado province, with 228, and Nampula province, with 209 cases.
The remaining seven provinces in the country register fewer than 60 cases.
“We want to inform you that we registered fourteen (14) more cases fully recovered from COVID-19. Six (6) in Cabo-Delgado Province, Two (2) in Tete Province, One (1) in Inhambane Province and Five (5) in Maputo Province. All those recovered are Mozambican citizens .
The cumulative number of recoveries in the country is now standing at 616,
,Of the total cases registered so far in Mozambique, 1581 are locally transmitted and 167 imported.
