The Ministry of Health today (July 1) reported that in the last 24 hours 757 suspected cases of Covid-19 were tested in the country . Fourteen tests came back positive, bringing the cumulative number of positive cases in Mozambique to 903. [Full MISAU press release (in Portuguese) HERE]
The newly diagnosed cases were detected in Maputo City and in the provinces of Nampula, Zambézia, Sofala and Maputo.
According to A Verdade, of the newly diagnosed patients three are children; two are teenagers and young people aged between 15 and 24 years old; three are in the 25 to 34 years old age grou;, one is in the 35 to 44 years old age group; four are in the 45 to 54 years old age group; and one case is in the 55-64 year old age group.
The number of recovered patients increased from 232 on Tuesday (June 30) to 248 on Wednesday (July 1).
This Wednesday, Mozambique passed the barrier of 900 cases of infection with the new coronavirus, by reporting 14 new COVID-19, cases, resulting from the testing of 757 samples in public and private sector laboratories.
With these new cases, 13 of local transmission and one imported, according to the COVID-19 data update press release issued by the Ministry of Health, the country currently has a cumulative number of 903 cases, of which 829 are local transmissions and 74 are imported.
Thirteen of the newly diagnosed patients are Mozambican nationals and one is a Chinese national.
The newly diagnosed cases are distributed across the country as follows:
– Six of these patients are in Nampula province (2 in Nampula City, 2 in Nacala Porto District, 1 in Murrupula District and 1 in Mogovolas District). These cases result from surveillance in health units;.
– Three patients are in Zambézia province (2 cases in the City of Quelimane and one (01) case in the District of Milange). Of these, two cases result from surveillance in health units and one case from the tracking of positive case contacts.
– Three patients are in Maputo province (1 case in the District of Moamba on the border of Ressano Garcia, 1 case in the District of Boane and 1 case in Cidade da Matola). Both result from surveillance in health u nits.
– One patient is in Sofala Province (Nhamatanda District), which results from surveillance in health units;.
– One patient is in the City of Maputo, which results from surveillance in health units (tested in the private sector).
“The cases reported today are in isolation at home. At this moment, the process of mapping your contacts is underway ”, explains the document.
However, in the last 24 hours, the country registered one more hospitalised individual, this time in the province of Tete, bringing to six the total number of citizens who are receiving hospital care.
“Individuals who are hospitalised have different chronic pathologies, associated with COVID-19, and all of them have a good clinical evolution”, explains the document.
It should be noted that other patients receiving hospital care are in Nampula (2), Tete, Sofala, Gaza, Maputo City.
So far, the country registered a cumulative number of 23 individuals who have been hospitalised due to Covid-19.
On the other hand, the country registered, from yesterday to today, 16 more individuals who are completely recovered from the disease, seven in the city of Maputo, five in Cabo Delgado, two in Tete and the same number in Zambézia.
With these recoveries, the country currently has a cumulative number of 248 patients fully recovered.
Health authorities recommend the continued compliance with COVID-19 prevention measures, including social distance, frequent hand washing, mandatory use of mask, especially in places with crowds of people, such as markets, bus stops, buses, among others, to reduce the risk of infection.
“It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to reduce, as much as possible, the contagion risk of COVID-19. Let us practice social detachment to reduce the spread of this pandemic, and thus protect our families, communities and our country ”, urges MISAU.
As of this Wednesday, Mozambique has 647 active cases, distributed as follows: Cabo Delgado Province – 149; Niassa – 15; Nampula – 274; Zambezia – 11; Tete – 14; Manica – 15; Sofala – 16; Inhambane – 13; Gaza – 4; Maputo Province – 65 and Maputo City – 71.
