Mozambique: Chimoio supports Maputo with 10 garbage trucks under 'twinning' agreement

Unidentified citizens kidnapped, this morning, in downtown Maputo, the businessman Sunil Ratilal, owner of the Megabyte stores, which provide IT services.
Information received by MZNews indicates that the crime occurred at around 8:30/9:00 a.m., near one of his stores, on Joe Slovo Street, in the EMOSE building (Maputo CBD).
The information is still scarce, but it indicates that Sunil Ratilal was kidnapped as he was heading to the store. The employees who were already there did not witness the scene.
Meanwhile, the newspaper Domingo and Miarmar report that the kidnapping was carried out by two hooded and armed men. They forcibly removed Ratilal from his vehicle, where he was accompanied bu his wife. He was snatched away by the kidnappers in a grey Toyota Sienta.
The kidnappers fled along the Notícias Street, which provides access to 25 de Setembro Avenue. The crime lasted less than two minutes, the newspaper writes.
The police have not yet commented on the incident.
The last kidnapping of a businessman or of a businessman’s family member that is known to have occurred just over two months ago, on August 5, in the city of Maputo. The victim was a 24-year-old citizen, the son of a businessman.
In the last 12 years, around 150 business owners have been kidnapped in Mozambique and around 100 have left the country out of fear, according to figures recently released by the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA).
