2 Mozambican nationals arrested for fuel smuggling in Likoma, Malawi
The panel of judges of the Seventh Chamber of the Judicial Court of the City of Maputo (TJCM), today sentenced Brazilian citizen Ariane Monteiro Aragão to 17 years in prison.
A 24-year-old native of Belém, Ariane was detained on 26 June 2019, at Maputo International Airport, in possession of 5.4 kilograms of cocaine, when she had just disembarked from a flight from Ethiopia, which followed the Brazil-Addis Ababa-Maputo route.
Ariane confessed to the crime before justice, also revealing that she was recruited in Brazil for the purpose of transporting drugs that would be marketed in Mozambique.
This is the second case of conviction against foreign nationals in the country, in less than a month,on drug trafficking charges.
Last February 21, the sixth section of the TJCM sentenced American citizen Rodney Willord Baldus, 66 years old, to 18 years in prison for drug trafficking.
