More than four hundred kilograms of heavy drugs, namely Hashish, Heroin, Ametamphitamin and others unknown to the expert teams, were destroyed today in Metuge district, Cabo Delgado province.
It is 299 kilograms of methamphetamine, seized by the authorities on December 24, 2019, when it was transported in a vessel with a hitherto unknown flag, off the sea coast of the city of Pemba.
In connection with the case, 13 citizens of Pakistani origin were detained on the occasion. The individuals are suspected members of an international drug trafficking network.
Speaking at the time, the Secretary of State in the province of Cabo Delgado, Armindo Ngunga, said that the incineration of drugs is part of the set of actions carried out by the Government, through the Defence and Security Forces, to fight organised and cross-border drug trafficking crime.
The Provincial Public Prosecutor’s Office in Cabo Delgado considers that the trafficking and consumption of drugs and other psychotropic substances harms consumers’ health and reduces foreign and national direct investment, weakens national security and the social fabric, tearing apart the families of illicit consumers, among other evils.
