The crime took place in the Polana neighbourhood on Armando Tivane Avenue, when the victim was about to enter a building.
Five armed men approached the Portuguese citizen. forced him into a vehicle and drove off to an unknown location.
To prevent any attempt to help the victim, the Police spokesperson in Maputo City toldTV Miramar’s Balanço Geral that the criminals fired shots at the ground.
A large force of Police officers and the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) were seen at the scene, following the kidnappers’ trail.
Meanwhile, the online edition of Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã reports that its special envoy to Mozambique, Alfredo Leite, found out that the kidnapped Portuguese citizen was heading to a supermarket when a car with tinted windows approached him.
