Mozambique: Zimpeto National Stadium banned by CAF without inspection, says Sports Secretary
Mozambican judoka Artur Júnior has won the silver medal in the African Cadet Championships 2018, held on May 10 in Bujumbura, Burundi.
In order to win silver in the 66 kg category, and the right to a place in the final, Artur Júnior beat a judoka from Tunisia who is number 19 in the semi-finals ranking.
Júnior had somewhat nervous start but, in the end, the quality of the Mozambican came out, eventually taking to the mat an athlete from one of the highest-rated countries on the continent in the sport.
In the final, Artur Júnior faced an Algerian athlete who is number five in the African ranking: an enormous challenge. Anxiety was his main enemy, and only in the final stretch did he really wake up and fight.
The judoka thus becomes the first Mozambican athlete to compete for gold at junior level on the continent.
Artur Júnior entered the competition as head of series, which is why he started competing only in the quarter-finals, having defeated a Congolese judoka.
