José Forjaz’s book ‘Thinking Architecture’ [‘Pensar Arquitetura’] will be launched at the Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre in Maputo tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.. Writer João Paulo Borges Coelho will present the book, a joint publication by Kaleidoscope in Portugal and Kapikua in Mozambique.
The book is an anthology of texts written by José Forjaz over more than forty years, in the form of reflections, lectures, classes, essays and public presentations, with a preface and a postscript. It outlines a life of thought and didactic work and numerous projects in architecture and urban planning, in the particular conditions of an architect’s professional practice in a post-colonial context, a detail which may serve as a reference for those interested in the subject.
The anthology is organised by themes, namely: Being an architect; Being a teacher; Conferences; Articles and Essays; Conversations; and Friends.
Some essays and conference presentations were written in other languages (English, French and Italian) and are presented in the book in Portuguese translation.
This book launch is part of a cycle of talks entitled “Conversations on a Theme: Architecture”, organised by architects José Forjaz and Vitor Tomás, which is taking place during March at the Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre in Maputo.
