‘Jardins em Festa’ back in Maputo

A special edition of the Gardens Festival (Jardins em Festa), a free event melding culture, music and environment, is back in Maputo. On March 3 and 4, Nangade and Cronistas Parks will be the venues of choice.

The initiative, a partnership between Mozambican producer Madame Comunicação and Maputo City Council, aims to bring more life to the capital’s parks and gardens and offer relaxing afternoons and evenings among family and friends.

The Hodi Band will open proceedings at Jardim Nangade (Jardim Dona Berta) in the Bairro Central in the heart of the city on Saturday, March 3, at 3:00 p.m.. To end the day, DJs Litho and Pateta will perform from 6:00 p.m. until dusk.

On Sunday, March 4, the party moves to the Jardim dos Cronistas (Sommerschield Park), with music by the JaMozBraz project from well-known Banda Napalma musician, Ivo Maia. Later, the sound booth is in the hands of DJ Dub Rui, of the 340 Million project.

“Jardins em Festa is an innovative cultural product in Mozambique that elicits a new way of living in cities, in communion with the environment and culture. This lifestyle concept invites residents and tourists alike to explore their sense of the city, with music and nature, through a simple trip to one of Maputo’s public gardens, with music the main ingredient for experiencing unique afternoons in the gardens of his city,” project director Magda Burity outlines.

A unique and pioneering concept in Mozambique, Jardins em Festa is supported by the Municipal Council of Maputo. An event for ages 0 to 80, activities will promote environmental awareness, fitness (with the support from Gym Power By Physical) and feature artisans from the surrounding areas.

“We are sponsored by the Super Bock brand and Fidelidade Seguros, which will ensure that the event is insured for civil liability. So in addition to being comfortable in our gardens during the days of the event all citizens are in safe hands – and the bands, DJs and production equipment too!” Burity enthuses.

According to Burity, Madame Comunicação wants the event to be a seasonal fixture in the city’s official programme, extendable to other locations in the capital. “Jardins em Festa is a gift from the city to its residents and visitors, a strategy of continuity that intends eventually to encompass all the gardens in Maputo,” the agency declares.

“We want to present new musical talents, bands and DJs, and promote this as a new way of attending concerts without giving up the Sunday family tradition in the company of those we love best. From the old to the youngest, from the families to groups of friends and sweethearts, from those who love music to those who are ready to dance. Celebrating great music, the magic and the joy will take Maputo by storm, make the city a happier place,” she concludes.

Gardens Festival Special Edition visual promotion is by advertising agency Boost, and communications by Madame Comunicação agency with the Municipal Council of Maputo.
