Mozambique: Junior researchers receive funding at HCM
The Government of Japan is to donate US$82,000 dollars for the construction of two neighbourhood libraries in the city of Quelimane, capital of the central province of Zambézia, in Mozambique. An agreement will be signed next Tuesday by the ambassador of Japan, Akira Mizutani, and the Mayor of Quelimane, Manuel de Araújo.
“The project will be implemented by Progetto Mozambico Onlus and the amount donated is US$82,200,” the Japanese embassy press release says.
Japan hopes the construction of the libraries will provide opportunities for students in the suburbs, and young readers especially, to improve their academic knowledge through reading, especially in the light of the near-absence and high cost of books, the note reads.
Libraries in Mozambique are usually found in city centres, so the construction of these libraries will help citizens avoid a long journey.
This will be the 100th community project undertaken by the Japanese government in Mozambique since 2000. It has recently pledged to provide US$83,000 to improve the provision of drinking water and sanitation in the village of Mavago in Niassa province, northern Mozambique.
