Mozambique mourns theatre icon Evaristo Abreu — beloved actor, director, and educator

Mozambican saxophonist Ivan Mazuze will play at the Teatro Avenida in Maputo tomorrow in a show accompanied by South African jazz band The Nu-Notes.
The young saxophonist’s show will be under the musical direction of South African Dan Selsick and will share the Norway resident’s latest researches in the national and international artistic firmament.
The concert is supported by the South African Department of Arts and Culture, and is organised by Marysa Leukes.
Ivan Mazuze has a degree in Jazz Studies and a master’s in Ethnomusicology from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and started his training at an early age at the Maputo Music School in the 1990s.
He is currently not only a stage performer but also a regular contributor to specialist ethno-musicology journals, and has released three albums: Naganda (2009), Ndzuti (2012) and Ubuntu (2015).
Mazuze will be performing alongside Georgia Jones (Baritone Sax), Marc De Kock (Tenor Sax), Tlale Makhene (Perc), Marco Maritz (trumpet), David Sendef (Trumpet), Siya Charles (Trombone), Blake Hellaby (Piano), Kenny Williams (Drums) and Peter Sklair (Bass Guitar).
