The Italian engineering firm Renco, which was involved in the construction of the Total Energies facilities in Afungii, opened a new subsidiary in Mozambique late last month, focused on the building of power plants.
Based in Pemba, Cabo Delgado, Renco Moz Green is banking on the plans of Filipe Nyusi’s administration – hampered by the 2017 uprising – to boost regional development through electrification.
According to an Africa Intelligence publication, the company hopes to follow in the footsteps of entrepreneur Dusan Misic, who announced plans to quadruple the capacity of the Mecufi solar power plant, even before it had been built.
Renco plans to both build and operate its own power plants. The Italian company, which is also present in Tanzania and DR Congo, also manages the Pemba bulk terminal, as well as a real estate portfolio.
Renco provides security for its assets through a sister company Italsec, which is run from Italy by former police force colonel, Marco Filoni.
