First Lady of the Republic, Isaura Nyusi, has recognized women’s contribution to the social, economic, cultural and political development of the country, and is seeking greater access for women and girls to health care, education and social justice.
In a message addressed to women released on International Women’s Day, celebrated today (08-03), Isaura Nyusi says that “through these women, we celebrate their courage, determination and achievements in different spheres of society, for inspiring positive changes in global, regional and national level, demonstrating their capabilities on an equal footing with men”.
This year, International Women’s Day is celebrated under the motto: “Investing in Women is Accelerating Progress”.
For the First Lady, “this motto urges everyone, men and women, to carry out concrete actions to invest and finance initiatives to empower women and girls so that they have equal access and benefit from the progress of countries on the African Continent and the entire world”.
Furthermore, she considers that the motto is aligned with the government’s strategy, “which has prioritized planning and budgeting from a gender perspective and the implementation of the slogan ‘We are equal’, aiming to achieve the elimination of gender inequalities, allowing women and men, participate in development processes, enjoying progress on equal terms”.
In her message, Isaura Nyusi also expressed solidarity with women affected by natural disasters and terrorism.
