Mozambique reports 11 more suspected cases of mpox - Noticias

An international medical mission to fight cancer, made up of 15 specialists from eight institutions, has arrived in Mozambique and will perform surgery and train doctors all this week.
The specialists come from institutions in the US, Brazil, Colombia and Thailand and will work in the Maputo Central Hospital and Mavalane General Hospital in Maputo, Matola Provincial Hospital on the outskirts of the capital Maputo and the Central Hospital in Beira.
The team will perform oncology surgeries with Mozambican doctors and train health personnel in oncology generally as well as cervical and breast cancer surgery. Work related to a research project on the human papillomavirus will also be undertaken.
This, the 15th mission in Mozambique to be carried out by the MD Anderson Cancer Centre, Rice, Stanford and Chulalongkorn universities, hospitals of Barretos, Albert Einstein Hospital, Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Porto Alegre and the Brazilian Institute of Cancer Control, will involve health professionals from all 11 provinces of the country.
Cancer kills 17,000 people a year in Mozambique, with 20,000 new cases reported each year, according to Ministry of Health figures released earlier this month.
Mozambican Minister of Health Nazira Abdula says that breast cancer kills the largest number of patients, and has stressed the importance of early diagnosis.
