The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) has warned that temperatures may climb as high as 42 degrees Celsius in the centre and south of Mozambique today (Thursday).
A statement issued by the INAM press office names the southern provinces of Maputo and Gaza and the central provinces of Manica and Tete as the high risk areas.
The hot weather is due to an area of low pressure over southern Africa.
The weather will change towards the end of the day with temperatures lowering and winds gusting up to 80 km/h.
The weather service recommends taking precautionary measures relevant to high temperatures and moderate to strong winds.
