A total of 14 documentaries produced by Mozambican filmmakers will be shown at the Institutional Documentary Cycle (INSTIDOC) which started at the Franco-Mozambique Cultural Centre in Maputo on Tuesday.
Besides Mozambique, documentary films from over 17 other countries bring the total to 27 films. With 14 documentaries, more than 50 percent of the programming, Mozambique is the country with the largest representation, proving not only the excellence of national content, but INSTIDOC’s commitment to its display.
The documentaries focus on issues such as agriculture, sustainability and the environment, culture, human rights, social development, education, gender, natural resources and health, and were selected from more than a hundred national and international applications.
Productions from South Africa, Belgium, Brazil, Cape Verde, Denmark, the United States, the Philippines, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Netherlands , Madagascar, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Russia, Swaziland and Tanzania bring to 18 the number of countries represented.
Launched in 2014, INSTIDOC is a public interest documentary platform supported by public, private, non-governmental and non-profit organizations.
In addition to promoting the independent documentary work, the initiative seeks to encourage the production of new works by guaranteeing a public space for their viewing, thus awakening and reviving institutional interest in supporting documentaries and the creative industries in general.
As in previous years, the showing of documentaries seeks to facilitate contact and the sharing of experiences between artists, institutions and the public, promoting debate in the dialogue sessions that follow the daily viewings.
