Following inspections in Nampula province last week, the General Inspectorate of Labour (IGT) has issued several warning to companies that are failing to comply with current labour laws in the country.
A press release received by Folha de Maputo indicates that inspectors identified 40 offences resulting in 32 warnings and 8 penalties covering seventeen companies and other establishments,
particularly with regards to lack of written contracts and protective equipment.
For minor irregularities, the companies will be re-inspected after the deadlines given.
The 17 companies visited by the IGT operate in the trade, hospitality, education, bakery, services and health fields, and employ a total of 348 workers, 46 of them women.
According to the release, the inspection covered 13 foreign workers, three of whom – two Pakistanis at Inara Computer company and an Indian working for Rehan – were caught working illegally and immediately suspended.
The respective companies have also been sanctioned under the labour law regulations for hiring foreign labour in Mozambique established by Decree 55/2008 of 30 December.
