The National Institute for Standardization and Quality (INNOQ) have sealed several pumps at petrol stations in Maputo after detecting that they were rigged.
The inspections formed part of INNOQ measure to assess the performance of pumps at fuel stations and ensure that the citizen is not disadvantaged. In one of the stations, for example, at the time of going to press, inspectors had detected two rigged pumps and sealed them.
INNOQ’s Bernardo Mussagy also pointed out that there had been cases of domestic gas cylinders being sold under the statutory 11 kg weight.
Penalties for these offences are set by INNOQ’s legal department and range from 30 to 240 times the minimum wage, depending on the severity of the offence.
