0aniel Chapo formed his provincial executive council on Wednesday, with his eyes firmly fixed on the Covid-19 pandemic. Tourism contributes the most to the province’s coffers, but is also the sector the worst affected by the pandemic.
The Inhambane helmsman acknowledges the situation the province’s tour operators find themselves in, and says that is why his executive will sit down with business people and work out solutions to the crisis together.
Chapo noted that 60% of Mozambique’s tourism activity takes place in Inhambane, and vowed to recapture the province’s predominance.
But he first asked for calm, saying that people would have to learn to live with the disease. As was the case with other diseases, such as HIV, cholera, leprosy and others that initially terrified people but with which the world today lives, so the same would happen with the new coronavirus.
The most important thing for now, Chapo said, was to ensure strict compliance with prevention measures.
The governor was speaking at the inauguration of the provincial executive council, which has two new faces, with Daniel Massingue taking on the functions of Provincial Director of Infrastructure and Emídio Nhantumbo appointed Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism.
