The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Inhambane Province recorded eight murders in five homicide cases opened in the past two weeks, one of the victims a child.
The crimes took place in the districts of Govuro, Massinga, Zavala and Homoíne and, according to the police, were motivated by jealousy and failure in life. The murdered child was only two years old.
“The management group of the PRM Command in Inhambane met to implement measures to tackle the situation. One of these is the intensification of police-community meetings, with the emphasis on religious and other influential leaders. The Bible and the Koran disapprove of this type of behaviour, which is subject to post-mortem punishment in all religions. For us, the law provides for a prison sentence of 24 years which, with special aggravation, can stretch to 30 years or more,” the head of Public Relations for the PRM in Inhambane told Radio Mozambique.
