Construction begins this week of three toll sections on National Road Number 1 (EN1) in Inhambane. The three tolls are to be located in the Inharrime and Malova regions in Massinga district, and Tambara in Vilankulo.
Drivers will be required to pay a token amount as a contribution to the maintenance of roads, Dade Mendes, National Road Administration (ANE) delegate in Inhambane, explained.
“The money generated by the tolls will be used to improve the road network. So, if my money is taken for upgrades, I will demand them, and I will be the first to value the amount that I pay,” he elaborated.
Mendes says that the three tolls are part of a first batch of similar infrastructures to be built in the search for sustainable financing for road quality and safety in the country.
