Mozambique: Workers demand higher wages on May Day

The Maputo branch of the Mozambican Institute for Employment and Vocational Training, INEFP, expects to train total of 16,879 mostly young candidates in a variety of areas, with the focus on the promotion of employment and self-employment.
In the capital, INEFP, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MITESS), teaches courses in auto and installation electrics, industrial maintenance, industrial maintenance mechanics, locksmithy, welding, electronics, occupational health and safety, hotel and tourism, executive secretariat, accounting and administration.
A press release from MITESS received by AIM states that after the training, the beneficiaries will be placed in public employment centers and private employment agencies, as well as in companies that will require labour this year.
Speaking in Maputo at the beginning of the 2017professional training cycle at the Tertiary Vocational Training Center in Malhazine, Kamubukwana municipal district, Maputo Director of Labour, Employment and Social Security Adelaide de Noronha Dinner said the total beneficiary number was set by Maputo City Council.
The event was attended by a total of 248 young representatives of private vocational training centers in Maputo, beneficiaries of self-employment kits and private trainers. During proceedings, representatives shared their experiences and discussed the value of self-employment.
