The National Statistics Institute (INE) announced, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary last Friday, that it would hold a test run for next year’s General Census of Population and Housing from 1 to 15 October next.
The test run will cover more than 600 areas in 11 districts in 11 provinces.
It is estimated that the 2017 census will cost US$75 million, almost double that of the 2007 census, which cost an estimated US$38 million.
The president of the INE, Rosario Fernandes, said that 66 officials had been sworn in to help carry out the general census and other institution projects.
