Former chief engineer (I&A and ISW) of India’s water resources department and member of National Dam Safety Authority N Sasi (64) was killed in a robbery attempt at Mozambique, reports The New Indian Express.
According too AIM, unidentified assailants on Saturday morning murdered an Indian citizen, named as Sasi Naryanan, in the central Mozambican city of Chimoio.
According to the police, the 63 year old Naryanan was asphyxiated when criminals broke into the house where he was living and put cloths over his mouth and nose to silence him. The gang also tied him up.
Naryanan was the manager of an agricultural company active in Manica and Sofala provinces. He was living with three other Indians in the house in central Chimoio.
The killers also stole three computers, six mobile phones, a briefcase containing a variety of documents, and 20,000 meticais (about 385 US dollars, at current exchange rates).
The spokesperson for the Manica provincial police command, Elsidia Filipe, said the murderers broke into the house through the main door. “They destroyed the door and some of the windows”, she said, “They forced their way in and began to beat the people living in the house. We think the victim suffocated because they put cloth over his mouth and blocked his nose”.
She said the police are continuing their investigations and hope to bring the murderers to trial.
The New Indian Express reports that Sasi Narayanan resided at Parvathy Cottage, Tholiakode in Punalur. The incident happened on Saturday morning where the robbers tied four officials in four different rooms. Sasi was found murdered later. His body will be brought home by Friday.
Sasi who was involved in many committees in the Mullaperiyar dam issue was working as a project team manager of a central government company Wapcos Limited which sent him for a consultancy work in Mozambique, after his retirement, adds The New Indian Express.
