UNIDO and AIMO sign MoU to boost sustainable industrialization in Mozambique

The infrastructure, tourism and agri-business sectors in Cabo Delgado will benefit from Indian investments in the near future, according to High Commissioner to Mozambique Rudra Gaurav Shrest.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the Cabo Delgado provincial government of to announce the intentions, the high commissioner said his country was interested in offering credit for the water supply project on the Mueda plateau and the 50-km rehabilitation of the Xitaxi (Muidumbe) Mueda road.
As to tourism, he said that India was willing to mobilise private investment in the area of accommodation, construction of tourist resorts and the setting up of a tourism training school.
In the agri-business sector, there are promises that India will attract investments for the industrialisation of cashew cactus and cotton, two crops where Cabo Delgado stands out nationally.
High Commissioner Shrest also announced that his country would expand its programme of health sector scholarships helping doctors specialise, as well as supporting institutional public sector training programmes.
Cabo Delgado governor Julio Paruque said that these were areas defined by the provincial executive as priority sectors for partnerships with the Asian country.
Indian investments in Cabo Delgado is represented in the hydrocarbons sector in the Rovuma Basin and in the extractive industry by large-scale ruby and graphite mining operations in Montepuez district.
