Mozambique promotes business at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair

India once again led the list of buyers of Mozambican exports in the first quarter of 2025, with purchases totalling US$515 million, representing 18.2% of Mozambique’s total exports, according to official data compiled today by Lusa.
The figures are drawn from the Bank of Mozambique’s Balance of Payments Report for the period January–March 2025. According to the report, Mozambique’s total exports increased by 4.8% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching approximately US$1.852 billion. In contrast, imports fell by 7.3%, totaling US$1.872 billion.
India remained the primary destination for Mozambican goods, with top exports including natural gas, coal, dried or whole pulses, and cashew nuts.
South Africa ranked second, with imports from Mozambique valued at US$380 million, accounting for 13.4% of total Mozambican exports. It was noted as the leading consumer of electricity, in addition to purchasing natural gas, coal, and bananas, among other products.
South Korea was the third-largest importer, purchasing US$338 million worth of Mozambican exports (11.9% share), primarily coal, natural gas, and bituminous minerals. Following closely was China, with imports valued at US$322 million, mainly natural gas, titanium minerals, and heavy sands.
On the import side, South Africa continued to be Mozambique’s main supplier, increasing its share from 25% in Q1 2024 to 29.4% in the first quarter of 2025. South African exports to Mozambique totaled US$551 million, consisting mainly of electricity, automobiles, aluminum oxide, and cereal flours.
China followed with US$304 million in exports to Mozambique (16.2% share), including tractors, machinery, ships, and boats for transport. India was Mozambique’s third-largest source of imports, with US$121 million in goods (6.3% share), primarily rice and medicines.
