Mozambique: Linking protests to the far-right is "forced" and "a distraction" - Mozambican analysts

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, yesterday congratulated the Mozambican authorities on the rescue of Indian businessman and philanthropist Rizwan Adatia, who was held in captivity for 21 days in Mulotana neighbourhood, Boane district, on the outskirts of Maputo.

Rizwan Adatia was kidnapped on March 30 by four armed individuals at a traffic light in Fumento, Matola, on the outskirts of Maputo, and the authorities rescued him after 21 days in captivity on May 20, in Mulotane, Boane district ,43 kilometres from the centre of the Mozambican capital.
Rizwan Adatia leads the Maputo-based Cogef group, which has 35 wholesale supermarkets, 190 stores, four industrial units and more than 3,500 employees across nine African countries.
In addition, he leads the Rizwan Adatia Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on reducing inequality in education, health and economic development in communities in Asia and Africa.
In addition to congratulating Mozambique on the rescue of the philanthropist, Narendra Modi expressed his intention to support Mozambique in combating Covid-19 by making medicines available, and indicated other positive aspects of cooperation between the two states.
“We reiterated our common interest in cooperating in the areas of agriculture, agro-processing, infrastructure, energy, health and in trade,” President Nyusi’s statement adds.
The latest data on economic relations indicate that Mozambique and India had trade worth about €1.7 million in 2018, up from €1.5 million the previous year.
Coal, cashew nuts and beans are among Mozambique’s main exports to India.
