Mozambique: Terrorist raids force displacement of about 40,000 people in two weeks - AIM report

The National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) yesterday ordered the closure of yet another restaurant – this time, Maputo’s Chinese Restaurant on the Avenida Eduardo Mondlane in the centre of town.
The closure comes as a result of irregularities detected by a team that visited the venue including poor food conservation and water infiltration. For example, an uncovered drain emitting a foul smell was found in the kitchen, and cat faeces in the beverage store.
The locker room did not have enough hangers or closets for workers to hang their clothes. As a result of these accumulating anomalies, the decision was taken to close the establishment immediately.
“Due to the accumulation of serious hygiene and cleanliness problems, the establishment will be suspended until they have been addressed,” INAE technical inspector Lúcia Aaron said.
Also on the list of problems is the fact that restaurant workers are ill-treated and work more hours than those stipulated in regulations.
The Chinese restaurant is now closed, and it is up to the owner to correct the anomalies detected before contacting the INAE and Tourism Directorate, who will check the work done and give the green light for its reopening if satisfied.
