Mozambique Elections: US denies funding demonstrations - AIM report
O País / The Portuguese party considers Nyusi an example of fighting for peace in the world
The 11th Frelimo Congress entered its second day yesterday, with representatives from various political parties and friendly countries in the spotlight and expressing their appreciation.
One of the political forces present was Portugal’s PSD, represented by Vice-President Marco António Costa and comrade Nuno Moraes Sarmento, who received generous applause from Frelimo members.
The Portuguese party was impressed, he said, with how their Frelimo comrades discussed important matters with a sense of joy, expressing his admiration for the presence of the former presidents of Frelimo and the country, in the persons of Armando Guebuza and Joaquim Chissano, as an example of Frelimo’s unity and pride in its history.

“The president’s speech yesterday was remarkable and will endure not only for presenting results of the last year but also for projecting the idea that without unity there is no peace and without peace there is no development,” Costa said.
Nyusi looked at the future with a determination to overcome difficulties, he said. “Only a statesman who trusts his work and the country takes Nyusi’s example. Instead of waiting for peace to go to him, he himself made the decision to [gout and] look for it.”
In the Portuguese politician’s eyes, at a time when international society was making in belligerent speeches and pitting countries against each other, a leader who made peace his life goal was a much-appreciated counter-example. “When today we hear the youth declare that Nyusi is in charge, this is not by chance. It is because young people are the main players in a united and developing country,” he added.
