Mozambique's population will be 34 million by the end of 2025 - INE
The International Monetary Fund’s 13-day mission to Mozambique to discuss the evolution of the economy with national players ends today.
The visit was carried out under Article IV of the Fund’s articles of association, which provides for such consultations with member countries, and will generate in a report by the beginning of 2018, according to the IMF.
Follow-up on the hidden state debts was also part of the mission agenda, and a communiqué on the main topics of the visit is expected.
The fund has demanded that the three public companies – Ematum, Proindicus and MAM – disclose information on the fate of the two billion US dollars borrowed, while at the same time apportioning responsibility.
So far, neither thing has happened.
Meanwhile, Minister of Economy and Finance Adriano Maleiane has said that the country needs to re-start a programme with the IMF in order to support public sector reform.
The resumption of an IMF programme was not among the subjects on the table during the visit that ends today, but the mission’s conclusions might give some indication of where we stand in terms of the path to such an outcome.
