The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is to send a mission to Maputo in September to “assess the progress made and make suggestions for the resumption of financial support to the country”.
Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario says the IMF sending a team stems “from the fact that Mozambique is experiencing significant progress in establishing the confidence of international partners, with particular emphasis on the International Monetary Fund” which has been following the economic situation closely.
“International partners have been following our progress, particularly in controlling inflation and stabilising the economy, important factors for the resumption of financial support,” the prime minister remarked during a meeting with business people in Niassa province.
Agostinho do Rosario said the IMF mission was important because “the International Monetary Fund is the one that assures other international financial institutions on the existence of conditions for financial support”.
