The Mozambican police have arrested 36 illegal Ethiopian immigrants, found in a house in Meconta district, in the northern province of Nampula.
The spokesperson for the Nampula provincial police command, Zacarias Nacute, announced the arrests at a press conference in Nampula city on Monday. He said the house where the Ethiopians were living had been found thanks to a local tip-off. The house was raided in a joint operation by the police and the Provincial Immigration Services.
“We haven’t ascertained whether they were all living in the same house”, said Nacute. “But the fact is that we found them all in the same residence. The procedure to repatriate them to their country of origin is under way. It was proven that they were living in the province without any legal authorisation”.
