Mozambique’s General Inspectorate of Labour (IGT), acting in coordination with the National Economic Activities Inspectorate (INAE), has suspended five Chinese workers from the China Super Market on Avenida do Trabalho, Maputo.
Serious violations of the rights of workers, as well as of consumers, were detected, O País reports. These include the illegal recruitment of five Chinese workers, lack of overtime pay, lack of holiday leave and lack of written contract.
As this is not the first time that the establishment has violated the country’s labour laws, the IGT immediately suspended the workers and requested their repatriation, in addition to fining the China Super Market 799,000 meticais (US$12,887.00).
