Mozambique: Robbery involving 14 suspects ends in shootout with police in Nametil, Mogovolas

A number of Mozambican families, especially in Gaza and Tete, are clamouring for humanitarian assistance.
According to Fews net, the worldwide Famine Early Warning Systems Network, humanitarian assistance is planned, funded and expected to cover about 300,000 people in Mozambique’s worst affected areas in January, after which the intervention will be extended to cover 380,000 people in February and March.
As a result, most semi-arid areas in the provinces of Gaza and Tete will probably be in a ‘stressful situation’ and receiving humanitarian assistance.
In February, most poor households in drought-affected areas earlier this year will continue to have below-average levels of income and limited purchasing power, particularly in the south and centre of the country, as food prices may remain high. Families will continue to employ survival strategies and rely on market purchases for their food.
Food security could deteriorate slightly In January, Fews net reports, as most areas of the country continue to face the typical effects of famine.
“Normally, households exhaust most of their food reserves, local food supply is low and food prices rise to above-average levels,” the global network of early warning systems concludes.
