Residents of the Hulene neighbourhood B in Maputo who saw their homes demolished following the collapse of the Hulene dump have complained of the lack of any comprehensive resettlement plan.
The complaint was made on Saturday morning by residents of the neighbourhood of Hulene “B” in the city of Maputo.
According to the residents, the City Council told them to remove their belongs prior to the demolition of the houses, and then abandoned them to their fate, none of them knowing , at the time of this report being filed, where he or she would be resettled.
This forced them to sleep in the open overnight, putting their lives and property at risk.
One of the the Hulene “B” neighbourhood block chiefs said he had received directions from the neighbourhood secretary to tell families to remove their property, but no-one could tell him where the population would be evacuated to.
The municipality however guarantees that there is space for all, and machines would continue to demolish the houses until the problem was fully resolved.
