The judge in the main case of the hidden debts in Mozambique has scheduled the reading of the final arguments for 3 March, according to the notifications that the Judicial Court of Maputo City delivered on Thursday to lawyers.
Also this Thursday, the court informed the lawyers that the discussion on the request formulated by the Public Prosecutor for the preventive seizure of assets of the 19 defendants in the main case of the hidden debts would be held on a date to be announced.
This debate had initially been scheduled for today, but this did not occur for reasons the court did not explain.
The prosecutor requested the preventive seizure of assets that it considers to have been acquired with the money from the hidden debts, based on the risk of concealment or dissipation of such investments.
The assets listed by the prosecution include real estate, cars, land, shares and cash.
On Thursday, Judge Efigénio Baptista and the prosecutors were not present in the courtroom, and the notifications to the lawyers about the beginning of the reading of the final arguments were delivered by the clerks of the court registry.
