The International Monetary Fund (IMF) considers the position held by President Nyusi of Mozambique and other stakeholders on the need to share responsibility between the Mozambican state and Ematum, Proindicos and MAM creditors legitimate, Rádio Moçambique reports.
IMF Resident Representative to Mozambique, Ari Aisen, says that the decision is sovereign and up to the country’s organs justice.
Aisén was speaking in Maputo on Thursday on the sidelines of a lecture at the Pedagogical University under the title “The Economic Situation of Mozambique, Beyond Statistics and Economic Policies”.
Aisen also says that it is crucial for the government to tighten policies and reduce the budget deficit, worsened by the difficult economic environment that marked the period 2015-2016.
According to the IMF, however, the tightening of restrictive policies should not affect citizens generally.
