The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) forecasts heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in the provinces of Maputo, Gaza, Inhambane, Manica and Sofala over the next 48 hours.
According to INAM, in Maputo, high-risk areas include Matutuíne, Namaacha, Boane, Moamba, Magude, Manhiça, Marracuene, as well as the cities of Maputo and Matola.
In Gaza province, the districts of Chókwè, Bilene, Mandlakazi, Limpopo, Mapai, Mabalane, Chicualacuala, Chigubo, Chibuto, Guijá, Chongoene and the city of Xai-Xai are at risk.
In Inhambane, the risk areas are the districts of Zavala, Inharrime, Jangamo, Panda, Funhalouro, Mabote, Homoine, Morrumbene, Massinga, Vilankulo, Inhassoro, Govuro and the cities of Maxixe and Inhambane.
INAM also foresees that the system will affect provinces in the centre of the country, including Sofala and Manica.
In Manica, the districts of Machaze, Mossurize, Sussundenga, Macate, Gondola, Vanduzi, Manica, Bárue, Macossa, Guro, Tambara and the city of Chimoio will be at risk.
In Sofala province, INAM cites the districts of Machanga, Chibabava, Buzi, Dondo, Nhamatanda, Muanza, Gorongosa, Cheringoma, Marromeu, Maringue, Caia, Chemba and the city of Beira as areas most likely to be affected.
