Guinea-Bissau’s minister for justice and human rights, Iaia Djaló, died on Monday in Dakar, in neighbouring Senegal, of a sudden illness, according to a family source.
According to the same source, Djaló was transferred from Lomé, in Togo, where he had been on an offiical mission, to Dakar after a “sudden illness” but subsequently died three.
The leader of the New Democracy Party (PND), which he founded after leaving the Social Renewal Party (PRS), Djaló was elected to parliament in the 2019 legislative elections.
He joined the current government, led by Nuno Gomes Nabiam, in the last government reshuffle, which took place last April.
A languages graduate who studied in Nigeria, Djaló had in previous governments held portfolios at the ministry of foreign affairs and trade.
